Club Member Agreement

Al-Huda School Creative Writing Club

Member Agreement

Bismillah-hirrahmaanir-raheem. As a member of the Al-Huda School Creative Writing Club, I pledge to abide by the following terms. I understand that if I purposely violate any of these terms, I might lose my membership in the club. By signing this agreement, I understand that:

  1. Club members should arrive on time to each meeting. If I must miss a meeting, I will let the club mentor (Brother Minhaj Hasan) know in advance.

  1. Giving and receiving feedback on our writing is a major part of the Creative Writing Club. I will be respectful and kind when I give feedback on other members’ writing, just as I expect them to be respectful and kind when they give feedback on my writing.

  1. The writing that is shared in the club remains in the club. I will never violate that trust by telling non-club members what people shared (their writing or verbal comments) in the club, nor will I publicize writing from club members without their consent. Just like I must safeguard the privacy of my fellow club members, I expect my privacy to also be safeguarded.

  1. My fellow creative writers are not only fellow club members, but they are also my brothers in Islam. As such, I will treat them according to this hadith: A Muslim is the brother of a Muslim. He neither oppresses him nor humiliates him nor looks down upon him. The piety is here, (and while saying so) he pointed towards his chest thrice. It is a serious evil for a Muslim that he should look down upon his brother Muslim. All things of a Muslim are inviolable for his brother in faith; his blood, his wealth and his honor. (Sahih Muslim Book 31, Number 6219)

  1. This club is for aspiring creative writers. I know there are no grades and no deadlines, but I also know that I have to write. I can write a little or write a lot, but I must write. My writing can be good or not so good, but I must write. Even if I don’t feel inspired, I must write.

  1. This club is also for sharing my writing with other creative writers. I don’t have to share everything I write, but I do have to share something.

  1. I know that good writing comes after a lot of bad writing, so I will give myself permission to write bad and to make mistakes. In Shaa Allah, I will learn by writing and re-writing, and I will learn from my fellow creative writers, and have a lot of fun doing it, in shaa Allah !
